Habitify: Habit Tracker

Price: Free | By: Unstatic Ltd Co | Size: 91MB | iOS: 9.3 or later

Habitify is a simple app, but a useful one for encouraging good habits. Habits are added to a list on the Journal screen and when a new one is created, it can be given any name, but several are suggested like Meditate, Run, Yoga, Read a Book and others.

Habits can be scheduled daily, on the days you specify, or one to six times a week as and when you can fit them in. A reminder can be set to alert you at a specific time and you can also set the time of day the habit is to be performed, such as morning, afternoon or evening.

That's it. In some ways it is a bit like a to-do list and you tap habits to show that they have been completed. Habitify tracks the habits completed each day and you can see a lot of progress indicators like the total completions, completion rate, productive days, top days of the week, current and longest streak, and so on.

Up to three habits can be added in the free version of the app and paying (UK) £5.99 unlocks unlimited habits, multiple reminders and data export, with a vacation mode coming soon.

The app's simplicity, reminders and good tracking and reporting are its best features.

Done: A Simple Habit Tracker

Price: Free | By: treebetty LLC | Size: 79MB | iOS: 10.3 or later

Habitify is good, but Done is even better and it has an almost perfect score in the App Store. The habits are listed on the home screen in a very simple but effective way and it uses colours and progress bars to make tasks stand out.

Most apps are designed to encourage you to build up good habits and this one does as well, but it also enables you quit bad habits too. You could cut down on smoking, drinking, gambling, coffee and so on. There is a Build or Quit option when creating the task. Choose Quit and you can set the maximum number of times you can do the habit, such as no more than three coffees a day.

Daily, weekly, monthly and yearly goal periods can be set and you can choose the days to track them and set reminders. The app tracks habits and displays them on charts that enable you to see the progress over a week, month or year. Currant and longest streaks are recorded.

You can mark habits done by tapping the number at the right side of the screen and tapping the name shows a progress chart.

Up to three habits can be added in the free version of the app and paying (UK) £5.99 unlocks unlimited habits. This is an excellent app that has to great features and it is recommended.

Productive - Habit Tracker

Price: Free | By: Apalon Apps | Size: 74MB | iOS: 8.0 or later

Productive is another highly rated habit-forming app in the iOS App Store and it is definitely one worth considering, although there is a small irritation, but first let's look at the habits.

You can add your own habits, but there probably will not be any need to because there are many ready-made ones and it organises them into categories like health, fitness, home, hobbies, social or efficiency. Within each category is a number of activities and within these a collection of icons to choose from.

Select the category, activity, icon and then you can create the habit by selecting daily, weekly, or monthly, which days you will do it on or how many times a week or month, and at what time of day you will do it. It can cope with multiple times a day too. You can see a calendar with habits done and some statistics.

Only two habits can be added in the free version of the app and a subscription of (UK) £2 a month is required to unlock unlimited habits and a few other items.

In some ways Productive is very good, such as in the number of predefined activities and collection of icons, and it has a comprehensive range of features, but two habits are not enough to make the free version useful and you could get a lifetime's access to Done for less than three months subscription to Productive.
