Here is one that is similar to yours mike-j

    Dear Customer,
Your bank recently notified us there appears to be an issue with your payment method on file. We have therefore had to place a temporary hold on your Apple ID. Whilst in place you will be unable to use the App store or iTunes services. Please follow the steps and complete the validation process in order to carry on using all available services at your earliest convenience.

Verify now > (this was a link to a dodgy site)

    Why you received this email.
If you didn’t make this change or if you believe an unauthorized person is attempting to access your account, you can reset your password by going to My Apple ID.

I got an email from Patreon saying that there is a scam going round and to ignore it, no data has been leaked. Then I discovered this in my junk mail folder. I think I did join up once, but never input any details, so I knew it was fake anyway:

Unfortunately your data was leaked in the recent hacking of the Patreon web site and I now have your information. I have your tax id, tax forms, SSN, DOB, Name, Address, Credit card details and more sensitive data. Now, I can go ahead and leak your details online which would damage your credit score like hell and would create a lot of problems for you.

If you would like to prevent me from doing this then you need to send 1 bitcoin to the following BTC address.

    Bitcoin Address:
    1QAQTyhCzAfvp8uLpneBNablahblahblah

You can buy bitcoins using online exchanges easily. The bitcoin address is unique to you. Sending bitcoin takes take, so you better get started right now, you have 48 hours in total.

I sometimes get odd emails that make me suspicious and wonder if they are phishing scams of some sort.

I get friend requests on LinkedIn via email. What's odd about that you might say. but the thing is, I go to the LinkedIn website and there are no pending friend requests. Is it possible to send a request to connect outside of LinkedIn using email? Why would you not make contact within LinkedIn?

Is this a scam? Will bad things happen if I click the button in the email to connect with these people?

tonyw, I occasionally get these too. I ignore email requests to connect on LinkedIn. I go to the website, log in, and check for friend requests on the site. I can't think of a reason why a friend request would come via email and not be on the site. It makes it very suspicious. Ignore them.

Here's one I got today. Dear Client! They don't even know my name!

Here's one for the collection. It says it is from Santander. I know it's a fake because I don't even bank with Santander. Ha! Watch out if you do though, and don't believe stuff like this.

Not a phishing email, a virus con. You get an email saying that there is a voicemail and you are encouraged to open the attachment to listen to it. Never open the attached file because it is more than likely a virus or other type of malware.

Oh dear, I've been summoned to appear in court! Not really, my email correctly flagged this as spam with a virus attachment.
