Does anyone use Cortana?

janmich Posts: 39Moderator
Cortana is one of the big new features in Windows 10, but I wonder how many people use it. I don't and I cannot see myself using it in the near future.

There are several reasons why and one is that it sometimes gets things wrong and it cannot understand me. I must say that I am impressed with Cortana's speech recognition technology and it is very good. However, it is super irritating when it cannot understand something. I created an appointment for Jane and when I tried to reschedule it, it kept hearing Joan and telling me that there wasn't an appointment for Joan. It was frustrating and after several attempts I gave up, opened the calendar and changed it manually. It would have been quicker and less frustrating to do this in the first place.

Another reason is that everyone around you can hear everything you say. Firstly, I don't want to broadcast everything I do on the computer. Secondly, it irritates people around you that are forced to listen to you talking to your computer.

A final reason is that it just isn't that hard to do the stuff you ask Cortana anyway. It is a solution to a problem that does not really exist. I just don't find it that much easier to speak things than to do the stuff manually.

What does everyone else think? Do you use Cortana or just ignore it?

No, I don't use Cortana. Never have and I cannot really see me ever wanting to use it.

Nope. I feel like a dummy talking to my computer.
