MixRadio to close music streaming service

A year ago the deal was finally completed for LINE Corporation to take over the streaming music service MixRadio. But now the company says that it intends to shut it down.

LINE Corporation, owner and operator of the free call and messaging app LINE, today announced its decision to discontinue the operations of its subsidiary MixRadio Limited. The MixRadio music streaming service will be discontinued in the coming weeks as we work with the technical team and partners to ensure a smooth closure. linecorp.com
MixRadio had originally been a Nokia music streaming service for the mobile phone company's users, but then Nokia was bought by Microsoft who already had a good music streaming service. Obviously one had to go and it was MixRadio.

MixRadio was opened up to a wider audience with the release of Android and iOS apps and the MixRadio Free Music Streaming app has been downloaded over 5 million times from the Google Play Store. It is not known how many iOS downloads there were.

LINE had big plans for MixRadio and it provides access to a catalogue of 35 million tracks. You can listen to free music and mixes anywhere, even offline. It's still live at the moment.

A deal was done as recently as late last year for MixRadio to be preloaded on Samsung mobiles in Inda. Sadly, it is to soon disappear.
