I have held off upgrading my PC for as long as I can, but it really needs to go. Should I go with a new Windows 8 computer or try and find one that is still shipped with Windows 7? Or failing that, downgrade to Windows 7 when I get the computer.
Windows 8 wasn't good when it was launched, but it is a lot better now and in places it is quite different. For example, you can set it to boot to the desktop and apart from having no Start button, for which there are alternatives, it is very similar to Windows 7. I rarely need to access the Start screen and tiles and whole days go by without ever seeing them. I boot to the desktop, use the PC all day and shut it down at the end. The Start screen is gone.
