Betting and gambling advice

Betting on horse racing can be a fun activity and if you have an interest in the sport it is something you will probably do from time to time. You should never bet more than you can afford because you won't always back a winner. Inevitably there will be losses as well as wins and you should never bet too much.

You will see and hear lots of tips from various sources and people and some are good while others are not so good. Remember that it is your money that you are betting and if you don't like the horse or the race then don't bet on it. Some people claim to have inside information about a race or a horse, but don't be tempted to bet more than your usual amount - the amount you can afford - because their information probably isn't any better than anyone else's.

It's a good idea to work out how much you can afford to bet and to stick to that amount. Don't bet more than your fixed amount just because you get a hot tip.

Many people agree that the safest type of bet is an each-way and it is one one that is recommended here. It's like two bets, one that the horse will win and another that it will come in the top three or four (it varies). So even if the horse loses and comes third, you'll still get a return on your money and often you will still make a profit.

If you think that you may have a gambling problem or that you are spending too much, you will find help and advice at the Gamble Aware website. You may also find Gamblers Anonymous useful.
