Do you like to write? Then why not create content for RAW Mac? Content is urgently needed, so if you have an interesting idea, a story to tell, a great app or web service you have discovered, and so on, then share it with the world.
The only requirement is that it is somehow related to your favourite computer and operating system - the Apple Mac and OS X.
The article could be a news story, a comment piece, tips, tweaks, advice, help, step-by-step guide, software or hardware reviews and so on.
We all use a computer, so why not write about how you use them? It would be great to have you onboard as a regular writer, but one-off articles are fine too.
No qualifications are necessary, providing your writing is good and easy to read. It’s an opportunity to further your experience and it could be the start of a freelance writing career. It can be a lot of fun and very rewarding writing for the web.
The ideal article would be around 500 words and have an image, but it really depends on the subject and it could be shorter or longer, and it could have more images. You must have written the text yourself and it must be original. Do not copy and paste from elsewhere, such as a press release, and articles that you have already posted on other websites aren’t of interest. The image(s) included must be free to use, either taken yourself, public domain, free use with photo credit. Positive articles are preferable to negative ones and are much more interesting, so if you have found a great product, hidden feature, tip and so on, that would be ideal.
Your author bio/credit will be included so people know who wrote the article. You can share the link to your article with your friends on Twitter, Facebook and so on. The more you can share links, the better.
Step 1. Register as a member of this site.
Step 2. Log in as a member of this site.
Step 3. Use the Contact form to submit article ideas.
Step 4. Write a short article if your idea is accepted.
Step 5. Progress through the member levels.
There are several levels of membership. New members have little power, but there are opportunities to progress from Registered --> Author --> Editor --> Publisher. Each level increases the website features available to you and your ability to create and post content. Eventually, you could become a high ranking and valued member of this site and share in its success.
Coming up with ideas for articles is probably the hardest task facing a writer. What should you write about? Open the Mac App Store on your Mac, go to the Best new Apps section and sort by Realease Date. That shows the latest releases and updates. You could pick an interesting app that's new and write about it, or you could see what has changed in an existing app that has been updated and create a step-by-step guide to using the new features. Apps are updated often and most people don't realise that there are new features. Of course, the Mac App store isn't the only source of Mac software. People often stick to the obvious features, menus and buttons in an app, so an article exploring a little used feature can be great. Dig around in the menus, preferences, help file and find those obscure, but useful features.
Screen shots are really useful in an article, but how do you take them? Just press Command+Shift+3 to save a screen shot (the desktop is the default save location). There is also Grab in the Applications/Utilities folder. Screen shots are too big for web pages of course, so cropping and resizing is often necessary. There are lots of editing tools for this and GIMP is a good one, and free too.
